Despite a valiant effort from the Wales Racing Academy on stage six of the Tour de Bretagne they couldn't claw back the five points needed to propel Pete Kibble into the King of the Mountain jersey.

The stage victory yet again belonged to Alberto Dainese (SEG Racing) as he took his tally up to three stage wins.

With the last four climbs coming inside the last 70km - the plan was to get a few riders up the road. But ultimately David Boutville (Cote D'Armor), Akmetov Galym (Astana City), Karl Patrick Lauk (Groupama FDJ) and Ole Forfang (Joker Fuel of Norway) spoiled the party.

After the successive climbs, the race entered the finishing circuits Kibble and the Tillett brothers were safely within the peloton as the race split to pieces on the finishing circuit.

The 5.4km circuit was one of the quickest of the race so far and with riders getting shelled out the back, the remaining academy riders done well to keep pace in what was a frantic closing lap.

Kibble said: "It was a tough day at the office. I was trying to get in the break but it just wasn't happening for me. I tried to pick up points where I could before Lotto turned the screw."

Despite not overhauling the five points, Kibble finished second in the KOM classification, and overall had a solid race in Brittany - always looking to get in moves throughout the six days.

For James Tillett, stage six was another great learning experience, saying: "It was a real scorcher of a day today and full on for the first 50km!"

"But overall it was another good day, it's nice to be amongst the race six days in and with one day left to go," said Tillett.

Speaking about the performance of the academy today, Rob Partridge said: "We set out with a plan of getting Pete back in the KOM jersey, but despite trying it wasn't to be."

"But, I can't fault the lads today, they showed some guts to try and put Pete in position. But looking ahead to tomorrow's stage I want the lads to go out with a bang and have a go," said Partridge.
