SPOTLIGHT: Rhyl CC awarded Welsh Cycling Club of the Month.
North Wales’ Cycling Development Officer Laura Twohig, took a trip to Rhyl CC to catch up with the efforts of the club through the winter months.
The cold, dark evenings have proved no match for Rhyl CC as the club has embraced a full on winter training schedule, keeping fitness levels up and spirits high during the closing months of 2018.
Led by coaches Jon, Dave and Colin, the North Wales club, which recently celebrated 40 years, have put in place a programme of activities to ensure members maintain their fitness levels. From strength and conditioning sessions through to weekly workouts, alternating between roller sessions and circuit training sessions.
Weekend coaching remained a high priority along with rides along the coast, and one particular activity that caught our eye was the recent ‘Kit the Kids’ ride, a sponsored ride which saw coaches, parents, supporters and kids ride one of the 70, 30 or 10 mile routes organised and led by the club.
The event was a great fundraiser and a huge success for the club, seeing the £1000 target being exceeded, and setting the young riders up for a great 2019 season.
Laura went along to a recent circuit training session: “These sessions are brilliant, and really valuable in maintaining a level of fitness off the bike which is great for this time of year. I’m sure the riders will feel the benefit once preparation for the racing season is underway”.
“I could see how much the group were enjoying the fitness sessions, the coaches did a great job of keeping everyone motivated throughout and everyone finished with a big smile on their face!, Well done Rhyl”.
Thank You to Rhyl Cycling Club for allowing us to share their Winter Journey. Rhyl CC will automatically be entered into the Welsh Cycling Club of the Year Awards 2019.
