Welsh Cycling have partnered with Frog Bikes, the lightweight bikes for children, in a two year partnership that will deliver an opportunity to make cycling an accessible sport to all.

Who are Frog Bikes?

Frog Bikes is a British company who specialise in the design and manufacture of lightweight child specific designed bikes using research from experts in sports science. They believe that a lighter bike that is designed with the child in mind, with child specific componentry, makes it easier (and more fun!) for them to give cycling a go and learn life-long skills. It is this shared ambition that has brought Frog Bikes and Welsh Cycling together.

Do they specialise in a certain bike design?

Frog Bikes manufacture a range of Balance, Hybrid, MTB, Road and Track bikes from super-lightweight aluminium which makes it easier for children to learn to ride as well as making handling easier for parents. The range of bikes suits kids ages 1 to 14+.

The range is designed with the child in mind: Lighter frames, shorter cranks and child specific componentry are just some of the highlights.  The manufacturer who have a base in Wales believe it is important to get the right fit and therefore choose to sell their bikes through over 1800 independent bike stores throughout the world. Stores have access to the research based Frog Fit TechnologyTM so that Parents can be confident the bike will be a good fit and built to a high standard.

In 2018 alone, Frog Bikes have won ‘Made in Wales Manufacturer of the Year’ (under 25M) for Frog’s factory in South Wales, a ‘Queen’s Award’ for Enterprise and a ‘RedDot Award’ for the design of the new MTB range.

Why have Frog leaped on board with Welsh Cycling?

A key objective for Welsh Cycling is to be able to encourage as many children to get on a bike in a safe and nurturing environment as possible.  Frog Bikes will support this objective and will join the Welsh Cycling team at a series of family cycling events allowing children and siblings of riders at the events to see what cycling is all about and experience their own little ride on Frog Bikes.

What events will Frog Bikes attend?

The scheduled events cover disciplines in Cross Country Mountain Bike and Cyclocross.  A varied range of Frog bikes for all ages and a test track will be available for kids to give cycling a go in a secure setting. The Events that Frog will be include;

The first event saw Frog Bikes join the Welsh Cyclocross League at Singleton Park, Swansea 4th November 2018.

Other events include;

“We are really excited to partner with Welsh Cycling as we realise that so many families can benefit from our shared ambition of making cycling more accessible. We want to see more kids on bikes, enjoying the experience at the events and beyond. If more children can have a positive introduction to cycling, we can help grow the sport and contribute towards families adopting a healthy and active lifestyle”  said Val Benyon, Head of Marketing, Frog Bikes

"Allow kids to Enjoy their experience in a secure and fun environment”.

 “Cyclocross and Mountain biking are disciplines that are in a safe environment away from road noise and distraction, making these events a perfect setting for families and young children to enjoy their first experience on a bike in a secure and fun environment”.

“We’re really pleased to be working with Frog Bikes in this manner, this is a fantastic opportunity to work with a bike manufacturer who have their development programme in Pontypool in Wales and understand the need for an introduction to safe cycling at Welsh Cycling events, we’re looking forward to working with Frog Bikes at these events with an aim to increase participation of children cycling in Wales”.
