Welsh Cyclocross League Round 6 one of the fastest courses in the League.

Hafren Cycling Club were proud to host round 6 of the Welsh Cyclocross league at Trehafren fields in Newtown.  Organiser Paul Bufton contributes his summary of the event.

"Trehafren Fields round 6 is the furthest North that the league travels and Hafren CC were keen to put on a great event for the riders that were travelling from all over Wales and also a strong contingent from the West Midlands.

Hafren Volunteers

Remarkably the weather proceeding and during the event stayed dry and the 234 riders who were in attendance were treated to one of the fastest events that the course has ever hosted.  Being hosted in a public park the entire event needs to be set up and taken down in one day, so the hardworking gang of Hafren volunteers started out at first light putting the course together assisted by a quad bike and trailer kindly donated by David Jones Honda in Newtown for the day.

 Infamous Lactic Ladder

The racing kicked off at 10am with the u6 riders who raced on a largely flat course with a wooded section.  As the races moved on the course became longer and more technically demanding, culminating in the introduction of the now infamous lactic ladder for the adult races.

Great Turnout

Event organiser Paul Bufton was pleased with the strong turnout for the event and the high quality of racing that spectators were treated to.  As a club with a strong junior section it was pleasing to see 58 riders under the age of 12 competing at the event.  The skill set of these riders is particularly impressive and is testament to the hard work of all the Go-ride accredited clubs in Wales just like ours.

Thank You

Finally a special thank you to all the volunteers who helped to put the event on, David Jones Honda for the loan of the quad bike, the commissaires and everyone else who helped put on such a successful event.

Thanks Paul Bufton for your message from the heart!

Welsh Cycling would like to apologise to any of the riders effected by chip timing difficulties at Newtown on Sunday (21st October). Working with the offroad racing commission, we are in the process of reviewing and improving our procedures to reduce the opportunity for similar problems to occur again. We hope that in spite of the issues, riders were able to enjoy the excellent conditions and superb course created by Hafren CC. Many thanks to the course organisers, marshals, riders and supporters.
