Our Development team are hard at work supporting our clubs to gain access to funding streams which allows the club to extend provision and services that allow more people to access cycling, this quarter has seen funding secured from a number of clubs.

Our Cycling Development Officers are regionally based and have helped clubs to secure over £20000 worth of funding into grass root level at a local level by working in strong partnerships alongside Local Sports Development Teams and Sport Wales.

The majority of awards has come via Sport Wales Community Chest grant which is administered at a local level through support from Sports Development Officers. The Grants of up to £1500 are targeted to extending a clubs provision to deliver opportunities for more people to partake in sport. Rhyl CC were awarded a Community Chest grant of £600 to fund a Level 1 award for 2 coaches from the club. This grant will support with a first for the club, as it will be used fund the coaching qualification of the first female coach to joining the coaching team.

When your club is looking for a larger investment then our Development officers look to make an application to Sport Wales Development Grant, as was the case with newly formed Synergy Cycling who were looking for a Major investment of over £10000 to kick start an inclusive cycling project based at Cwmbran Stadium.

“The project required a substantial amount of funding in order to purchase specialist cycles and the training required for leaders to run an inclusive project that would allow all users the opportunity to get into cycling.

Links were made to the councils Sports Development Officer, the facility and Sport Wales as parts of the project were discussed and development plan for the club produced.

Once this was in place it was simply a case of completing the grant form and awaiting the decision from Sport Wales” - Dan Coast, South Wales Cycling Development Officer

With the funds now in place the club can undertake the work to set up what will be a fantastic facility that will help allow more people to access the sport of cycling.

If your club would like support in seeking the funds needed to develop a new project in your club please contact your relevant Development Officer.
