The roles vary from day to day and event promoters Newport Live have a  number of roles available.

Start Gate crew

Two teams of 2 or 3 people to move start gates on and off track for pursuits. This is a heavy job lifting gates weighing around 20kg’s. Volunteers will work rotating roles to have 1 cable supervisor and 2 to move the gate to keep things fresh.

Gate sessions;

Monday                               11-12, 1230-1330, 5-6pm

Tuesday                               1030-1330. 5-6pm

Wednesday                        12-1pm

Thursday                             10-11, 1230-3, 4.30-5pm

Friday                                    10-12, 3-4pm

Pursuits are usually in blocks with breaks for other racing and podium ceremonies. Training will be given in advance for this.

Timing crew

We are looking for volunteers to provide assistance in the timing box where you get the best seat in the house overviewing and operating the photo finish equipment.

The software is relatively simple to use but you will need confident in using a computer and some basic knowledge of track cycle racing would be a big benefit. The event organisers will be on hand to support on the day and provide on the job training.

Social Media crew

We’re looking for some social media savvy people to help us on the day communicate with the world. If you are a user of Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and have a creative flair we want to hear from you. You will be working alongside the Newport Photographic Society who will be providing images from the event and will receive support from Newport Live & Welsh Cycling’s communications teams.
