The £500,000 a year sponsorship deal aimed at getting more people cycling in the Welsh Capital City has been agreed by the city council.

Welsh Cycling have recruited two HSBC UK Go-Ride Coaches to help deliver cycling activities across the four year project and will be based within the Cardiff Council office from January 2018.

Chief Executive Officer, Anne-Adams King said: “We are excited to be working more closely than ever with Cardiff Council to expand the cycling offer in the Welsh Capital.

“We were thrilled with the outcome of the first HSBC UK City Ride which took place at Cardiff Bay during the summer and we thoroughly look forward to continuing to introduce even more opportunities to get people in and around the city on their bikes.

The Cardiff programme aims to:

• See 10,000 more people cycling in Cardiff,
• Double the percentage of journeys to work taken by bicycle from 9.2% to 18.4%
• Develop Cardiff’s reputation as a ‘Cycling City’

Activities in the city will include cycling events to suit all levels of ability, as well as a second HSBC UK City Ride for 8,000 riders on 13 May 2018, where city centre streets will be closed to traffic.
