Wales young riders secured the overall team win at the 2017 School Games, defending their 2016 title

Eight Welsh cyclists represented Wales at the annual multi-sport event, which also acts as the Inter Regional Road Championships for British Cycling regions. The event gives riders their first experience of a multi-sport event, with athletes from across the UK competing in twelve different sports.

Welsh riders Owain Roberts, Zach Bridges, James Codd, Samuel Beckett, Eluned King, Ella Barnwell, Elynor Backstedt and Emma Finucane made up the winning team Wales at the 2017 School Games which were held at Loughborough.

John Holt, Regional Performance Coach at Welsh Cycling said: “The School Games is a brilliant opportunity for young cyclists to experience a multi-sport environment.

“Aside from the competition, the riders enjoyed workshops, learning to become independent and to perform together as a team and had the chance to mix with athletes from other sports”.

The three days saw the riders compete in various competitions including a Team Skill Relay, 50m Sprint and Team Time Trial, before securing the 1st place spot following fantastic performances in the Road Race on day 3.

Well done to all riders.
