Welsh Cycling is delighted to be working in partnership with Breeze and National Trust to get more women cycling at National Trust properties in Wales.

Breeze, a British Cycling programme, aims to get more women riding bikes for fun, helping them to feel confident and comfortable whilst riding. Working with National Trust properties, Breeze Champions in Wales have been able to offer largely traffic-free routes with bike hire available at the properties.

Breeze Champion Nia Richards has been working with Llanerchaeron National Trust property through the summer, and has begun regular rides from the property for women and children. Read more about Nia’s Breeze journey.

Laura Edwards, National Trust Sport Partnership Manager says: “It’s fantastic that we have been able to work closely with Welsh Cycling and local Breeze champions to develop friendly women-only led cycle rides in and around many National Trust places in Wales. Our properties provide spectacular locations and great facilities for people to enjoy by being active, which is all part of our new and exciting sports partnership programme ‘Let the outdoors move you’. We hope to be able to engage with new audiences and get more people enjoying our outdoor spaces and getting active.”

Women can also ride the cycle paths around Penrhyn Castle, Gwynedd with Breeze Champion Esther Griffiths. With the support of National Trust, Breeze rides will be extended into the grounds of the Castle from Spring 2016 providing traffic free bike rides for women and girls on weekends and evenings.

Georgina Harper, National Development Manager, Welsh Cycling said: “By working with the National Trust we are creating more opportunities for women and girls to cycle, with more routes available around the iconic properties. The locations provide a wonderful backdrop for cycle rides in all seasons, as well as safe, traffic-free environments for women and girls to enjoy cycling.

We are looking forward to extending Breeze to more National Trust properties in 2016, and get more women and girls cycling.”

Partnership

The partnership will extend to more National Trust properties in 2016, with Stackpole, Pembrokeshire, training its own Breeze Champions to deliver rides. Chirk Castle and Erddig Hall in Wrexham are also looking at providing Breeze rides between the properties, a 10 mile ride combining cycle paths and less busy roads with local Breeze Champions and Wrexham County Borough Council Sports Development Officers.

Since the launch of Breeze in Wales over 1500 women have taken part in over 400 rides across Wales. To find a Breeze ride near you visit www.breezebikerides.com
