This weekend Welsh Cycling will be celebrating the first anniversary of Breeze in Wales. Champions, cake and cycling will combine to celebrate a year of success with events taking place in North and South Wales.

Hosted at the Wales National Velodrome, Newport and Coed Y Brenin, Gwynedd the events will see Breeze champions from across Wales gather to discuss successes, increase their knowledge via bespoke workshops and take part in special bike rides.

British Cycling's Breeze is part of the SheCycles Wales programme and is now operational in 19 of 22 Local Authorities in Wales. SheCycles Wales encourages female participation at all levels across Wales, from social riding to competitive cycling.

Successes worth celebrating since Breeze launched in Wales one year ago...

1503 women on Breeze rides, from complete beginners to seasoned riders
423 short, long, hilly, flat and fabulous bike rides
107 amazingly enthusiastic volunteer Breeze champions trained
2 award-winning champions

Commenting on the anniversary, Anne Adams-King, Chief Executive Officer at Welsh Cycling said:‘Women’s cycling in Wales is in fantastic health and it is down to programmes such as Breeze. The initiative has had a successful first year and I am excited about what the year ahead has in store for the programme and SheCycles Wales.’

Jill Puttnam, Head of Operations at British Cycling said: ‘The progress of Breeze in Wales is a testament to the Breeze champions who volunteer their time to organise rides and get more women and girls riding their bikes. British Cycling has big plans for the Breeze programme and the expansion across Wales has a pivotal role to play.’
