Oliva sprints to victory for Team USN

Lewis Oliva stormed to victory in both the Keirin and Sprint events for Team USN at the opening round of the Revolution 46 Series in London.

Oliva won his heat, leading from the front with too much power for anyone to challenge him. He then went through to the final, where Spanish sprinter Juan Peralta looked a strong contender for the in. However Oliva came around Peralta to win the Keirin, with fellow Team USN rider Chris Pritchard taking 4th.

In the Sprint, it was Oliva and Peralta pitched against each other in the finals, which was fought over three matches. However it was Oliva that once again pipped Peralta on the line to take the win for Team USN. Chris Pritchard finished 4th on the London Velodrome.

Lewis Oliva said: “It was great to get two wins this weekend, and Peralta is such a strong sprinter and it was great out on the track this evening with the support of the crowds. Events like Revolution provide opportunities to race, and I relish any opportunity to get on the track and compete.”

In the Madison National Championships, Joe Holt paired with Alex Dowsett for the 200 lap event. The duo took silver, as Andy Tennant and Ollie Wood claimed the national title in London.

In the Elite Men’s Championship, Joe Holt was Team USN’s sole representative. Moving on from his HOY Future Stars Championship overall win last season, Holt competed against the best of British riders. He also took part in the Velodrome Craw., The event requires riders to not cross the start line for the first three minutes, placing the emphasis on balance and positioning, before a final one-lap sprint to decide the winner, watch below to see how he got on.

The Team USN Elite Women had the Omnium to contest over the two days of competition now in the new Olympic format. With competition fought between Laura Trott and Marianne Vos, it was an opportunity for the young riders to compete in their first senior events against the world’s best track riders.

The HOY Future Stars Championships got underway on Saturday evening, and there were many highlights for the young riders in Team USN with Jessica Roberts and Rhys Britton getting individual wins in the Points and Scratch Races, with Rhys Britton leading the HOY Future Stars Boys Championship at the end of round one.
