The forthcoming Chestnut Homes Lincoln Grand Prix is a special milestone in the British domestic racing calendar, says Andy Tennant.

Round 2 of the men’s and women’s HSBC UK | National Road Series takes place on May 12, with Tennant’s Canyon DHB p/b Bloor Homes team looking to build on the Rory Townsend’s victory in the first round of the series at the East Cleveland Klondike.

Townsend beat both Scott Thwaites and national champion Connor Swift in a sprint finish in Guisborough at the season opener, setting the team up perfectly for the remaining rounds of the series.

Tennant said:

“We want to win as many rounds as possible – it’s that simple. We’ll be going into every round looking to win, and looking to get as many points as possible for the Tour of Britain qualification.

“We’re going to struggle a bit with Lancaster as we’ve got a split team over that weekend, so we need to make sure we get a bit of a buffer in these early rounds.”

The Wolverhampton-born rider will take his place on the start-line at Lincoln looking to go one better than last season, when he claimed second place behind Alex Richardson, who is now riding alongside him for Canyon DHB p/b Bloor Homes.

Tennant continued:

“There are certain events you target as an individual. Lincoln, for example, is one that suits me and one I’m looking at and looking to be going as well as possible for.

“The Chestnut Homes Lincoln Grand Prix is one of the oldest races on the calendar – it’s the most prestigious and it’s the one people want to win. The crowds at Michaelgate are fantastic. I got second last year, so fingers crossed we can win that stage again, and hopefully it can be me on that top step!”
