Williamson and Atherton victorious at 2016 British Cycling National Downhill Championships

Greg Williamson and Rachel Atherton were crowned elite men’s and women’s champions respectively at the 2016 British Cycling National Downhill Championships on Sunday in Llangynog, Wales.

Williamson, 24, completed his run in 2:33.508 to beat Danny Hart - who won his first UCI Mountain Bike World Cup on Sunday 10 July in Switzerland - by just 0.375 seconds at Revolution Bike Park.  

“Don't believe it, 2016 British National Champ! Woo!” Williamson wrote on Instagram.

Steve Peat completed the podium in 2:34.024.

Elite women

World champion Rachel Atherton continued her remarkable season with a fifth elite women’s title.

The 28-year-old, who has won a record 11 consecutive world cups, was over eight seconds faster than second place Tahnee Seagrave with a time of 2:49.687.

“There's no feeling like a perfect run and today I had a near perfect race run and I am BUZZING to be National Champion again!” Atherton wrote on Instagram.

Manon Carpenter was third in 3:03.582.
