Scott Beaumont continued his journey back from injury by taking the Pro Elite victory at round three of the HSBC | Mountain Bike Four Cross National Series while Megan Wherry continued her dominance of the women’s series.

Beaumont, who won the National Four Cross Championships last season, was in dominant form winning both the semi-final and final from the front.

Meanwhile, last year’s series winner Wherry, who has also won the previous two rounds this season, was in emphatic form, winning all three of her qualification motos before dominating the final.

Beaumont reigns supreme

The third round saw the series return to the FlyUp 417 Bike Park near Gloucester and the dry conditions led to close and fast racing.

Beaumont, 40, won two of his three qualification moto rides, only being edged out by round one winner Connor Hudson in the final ride.

But Beaumont got revenge in the semi-final by getting the better of Hudson after powering away from the start as both riders qualified for the final.

The other semi-final was a close contest with Will Evans powering away from Jack Hudson.

The final saw Beaumont go head-to-head with Connor Hudson going out of the gate and into the first bend with the latter being forced up the banking.

Evans took advantage to pass Hudson while Beaumont powered away to take a clear win.

Win surpasses expectations

“It has been an interesting start to my year after winning the first BMX National Series and crashing at the second BMX National Series I broke my radius, so I’ve got a plate and sevens pins in there now,” said Beaumont.

“I returned to racing last weekend in Germany and got fifth in the European series, but to come here and win today is way ahead of my dreams, I was just hoping for a top-eight today.

“To get the win is very exciting especially with Fort Williams in the 4X Pro Tour in two weeks’ time. It’s great for my confidence.

“I held a good line out of the first turn and tried to check out from those guys and avoid any collisions. Where I’m at I just can’t crash so I just wanted to scamper away.

“I’m happy to take the win and come away in one piece.”

No worries for Wherry

After dominating the opening rounds, Wherry proved to be the one to beat again in Gloucestershire - taking convincing wins in all of her three qualification motos.

Courtney Abbiss, Hannah Escott and Julie Morrisey also qualified for the final.

The final saw Wherry stamp her mark to ride away to victory while Abbiss edged second ahead of Escott following a close battle.

Quick out the blocks

“It was really good and the track was running really fast so I managed to get a good start,” said Wherry.

“I managed to get a good start out of the gate and then held my line the whole way down and took the win.

“It’s my third time (round win) now so I’m doing pretty well and I’m feeling good. Hopefully I win the National Series again this year and maybe British Champion at the next round.”

The fourth round of the HSBC | Mountain Bike Four Cross National Series takes place on June 30 at Afan, Port Talbot with the National Four Cross Championships being held the previous day at the same venue.
