Third places in the final round of the HSBC UK | National Four Cross Series at Witcombe were good enough to secure overall series victories for Will Evans and Tyde D'Souza.

Duncan Ferris and Megan Wherry took the wins on the day but it was Evans and national champion D'Souza who secured the series crowns with third-place finishes in their respective finals.

Ferris conquers the clay

Ferris was the only pro elite rider to take three wins from three on the clay-based course in conditions made all the more difficult due to persistent heavy rain.

It was Ferris who took the best line coming out of the first bend just ahead of Evans, the bend that many riders had found difficult throughout the day.

Tom Gethin and Ben Jones, the latter in his first ever A final, were in the mix, but all eyes were on Ferris and Evans, the pair swapping the lead on the slippy course.

And after Evans lost his wheel on the final section, Ferris managed to move away to take his first win of the series.

Gethin then moved past the stranded Evans to claim second whilst Jones took fourth.

Wherry goes back-to-back

In the women’s event, Wherry was the standout performer on the day with a second consecutive win.

She made light work of her first two motos with consecutive victories but crashed on her third, which saw her having to go through the run-offs.

But she made no mistake as the course began to deteriorate, booking her place in the A Final where she met D’Souza, Courtney Abbiss and Hannah Escott.

After dropping behind at the start, Wherry and D’Souza saw began to close the gap on both Escott and Abbiss coming out of the first bend, but when the national champion crashed midway down the course it allowed Wherry to slip away and take the win.

Abbiss then rode past the stranded D’Souza, who rallied and take third, to claim second while Escott rolled across the line in fourth.
