Great Britain Cycling Team technical director Shane Sutton OBE speaks ahead of the 2015 UCI Track Cycling World Championships and takes a look at the preparations and aspirations.

Hello from Paris where the atmosphere is building and the track world championships are just getting underway for the Great Britain Cycling Team.

The attitude is good and the training has gone quite well.

Although there have been quite a few injuries and illnesses, you can’t take that to the worlds. The worlds are a place to be judged, not for experience and not to stand behind and making excuses, we want to be judged and let’s just hope we find some progression.

I think the worlds are based around the blue riband events, the team sprint and the team pursuit. They are going to be very pivotal in how we perform this week because they are early on and if we can get some success out of them, then I think we will do well.

I think we will definitely be looking at the women’s team pursuit to see if they can retain their title for the sixth time and set the ball rolling. I’m looking forward to seeing the men’s team sprint kick off, that’s a big one for me to see where we are at.

For the men’s team pursuit, this is a big one for them; they were eighth last year. They are going to have to try and get up onto the podium. If they get onto the podium that will have been an amazing journey since Heiko Salzwedel’s arrival.

At the end of the day it’s down to the riders to perform we – as coaches – can just support them.
