Clear space in your diary, dust off your camping kit and reboot your spirit of adventure- 2013 is going to be a busy year for South West mountain bike racers!

The South West XC Series is back for 2013, bigger, better and Juicer. Having supported us from year one, Juice Lubes have come on board as event sponsor for the series, and for our signature weekend the Juice Lubes Jam.

Each round will be supported by a Saturday evening short xc event and camping.

Expect the usual standard of course design. Fully Sussed have gained a reputation for designing challenging courses, and this remains a goal for 2013. We will however be investing more time this year in creating better B lines around those sections that have earned us our reputation (I’m thinking of Newnham’s ‘Bear Pit’, Woodbury’s ‘Nod off’, and I can’t remember what we called the one at Wheal Maid). We love to challenge the technically blessed riders, but we don’t want to scare off those riders who are new to the sport.

Series dates:

Round 1 – Wheal Maid Valley – 7th April 2013

On Saturday 6th there will be camping at the venue and the first of our short course events at Portreath BMX track. The main XC event takes place on Sunday 7th with categories to cater for riders of all abilities. Wheal Maid was our stand out venue for 2012 and will be a fitting start to the season.

This event will also act as a warmup event for round 2 of the National MTB Series, hosted by our good selves on 27-28th April.

Round 2 – Newnham Park – 12th May 2013

This is our BIG weekender. Camping will be open from Friday evening. On Saturday we kick off with the Juice Lubes Jam (a 3 and 6 hour enduro). The second of our short course xc events will take place in the arena on Saturday evening. The XC event follows on the Sunday with all the usual categories, as well as the fight for the title of ‘South West Champ 2013’. If you’re not a lycra clad racer, don’t let this title match put you off – it only really effects a handful of people at the race. For the rest of you, it’s situation normal – get out there and ride your bike.

Round 3 – Woodbury Common – 16th June 2013

Our final round takes place on Woodbury Common, with the Saturday short xc being based at a nearby campsite. This round will decide the series winners, and this year there will be something much more exciting on offer than a plastic action hero for our winners (what’s more exciting than an action hero I hear you say? You’ll see).
