After the decision by the UCI to drop fourcross from the Mountain Bike World Cup Series at the end of the 2011 season, the 4X Alliance that the 4X Pro Tour has been formed for 2012.
The 4X Alliance have been working with the UCI and race organisers to create the new 4X Pro Tour. Houffalize, Val Di Sole and Fort William will all host rounds of the 2012 4X Pro Tour alongside World Cup cross-country and downhill during those weekends.
Chris Roberts, one of the organisers behind the event, said: “Fourcross has been gaining popularity over the past few years and after the UCI announced it would not be part of the World Cup in 2012, we knew we had to create our own series and continue to grow the sport. 2012 will be important for the development of fourcross and together with some fantastic support from organisers, riders and fans we are looking forward to an awesome season in 2012.”
Scott Beaumont added: “We have worked hard to put together a new Pro Tour for fourcross riders and we are looking forward to a future where we can help to grow fourcross around the world.”
The 2012 4X Pro Tour already has the support of all of the world’s finest fourcross racers. Czech favourites Tomas Slavik and current world champion Michal Prokop, Joost Wichman and his new fourcross team, women’s world champion Anneke Beerten and her arch rival Melissa Buhl are all confirmed to be competing in the Tour in 2012.
