Nixon wins again at the Sunday Supper Race

Nutcracker Supper Race
Event: 3rd July 2011
Event Details
Report: James Hall

With less than two weeks to go until the 2011 Dare2B British National XC MTB Championships, Nutcracker organisers Bikelicker Events invited all of their series regulars to take part in a low-key event on part of the National course at Aske.

With some major changes having taken place to the course over the last few weeks, there were some pleasantly surprised expressions on the riders' faces as they raced the ‘Troll Trail' section of the course, aptly named after Bikelicker's Course Director Adey Dent.

Not only a pilot event for the course, but also for the new simple short-course racing format that the organisers had devised for a potential evening series in 2012, racing kicked off at 7pm with two categories: Under 16 and Over 16.

Competition was strong in both categories but clear winners were present in both races, with Alan Nixon and Billy Harding romping away from the rest of their fields in the Over 16 and Under 16 categories respectively.

Tony Fawcett and Dan Cook came home in second and third after a race-long tactical battle in the Over 16 event, with first lady Jessica Roberts following closely behind. Meanwhile, Tom Parkin and Jonathan Dobson came home in second and third respectively in the Under 16 category.

Writing on Facebook following the event, WXC World Racing's Jessica Roberts commented: "Amazing! Probably the best course I've ridden all year - can't wait to race it!", followed closely by a response from Event Director James Hall of "You aint seen nothing yet!" in reference to the 50% of the course that remains under wraps but promises some fantastic technical and undulating terrain.

Entries are now closed for all Championship categories for the British XC Champs, although they remain open for the Fun, Open and Sport categories, for which racing takes place on Saturday 16th July on the full course.
Organisers have also released details of the ‘Nutcracker Skills Academy', which will be piloted on the evening of Friday 15th July on the National course.

Riders entered for the Fun and Open categories are eligible to take part in the Skills session, which will be led by Nutcracker MTB coach Nick Piper. Pre-booking is essential - contact the organisers for more info at info@bikelicker.com.

Whether you're planning to race at the British XC Champs, or simply spectate, everyone is welcome at the HQ area on the evening of Saturday 16th for the ‘SweatMonster's Revenge' - an Adult Go-Ride session.

Payback for the budding racer who's spent many-a-Nutcracker event being ‘supported' by a parent from the sidelines shouting ‘Come on, you can do it. It's easy...' Let's see who's smiling at the end of this session when the boot is firmly on the other foot!

All are eligible to take part in the Saturday night session. There will also be a Slow Race and an MTB Speedway event taking place through the course of the evening for which again, all are welcome to compete in.

With a licensed bar on site and Quaver Catering providing food, look no further for an evening of entertainment.
