Josh Bryceland led a charge of the new order at Llangollen, as round four of the British Downhill Series witnessed a podium dominated by under-23 riders.

On a classic sub-two-minute course, many had pinball wizard Danny Hart down for the win, most ruled out king of Llangollen Brendan Fairclough due to injury, but few expected Bryceland to complete such a great run.

The 2008 Junior World Champion put together a run only beatable by long-term mentor Steve Peat, who was up by half a second at split one. But in the most challenging lower turns Bryceland held it together and took a memorable win, while Peat suffered from a mistake and slipped outside the top ten.

Sam Dale, Danny Hart and Joe Smith filled out the podium, with Matti Lehikoinen fifth and the first rider over 25.

Manon Carpenter returned to racing after completing her A-level exams and proved a break hadn't slowed her down, the Junior rider taking the win by four seconds from Emily Horridge. British Champion Jess Stone crashed in seeding and finished fourth, unhappy that a mistake cost a podium appearance.

The British Downhill Series concludes with round five at Fort William, September 10.

British Cycling would like to thank the organising team, officials and everyone else who helped promote this event. Our sport could not exist without the hundreds of people, many of them unpaid volunteers, who put in many hours of hard work running events, activities and clubs.
