UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Round 2 Cross Country Olympic - Nove Mesto, Czech Republic
25 May 2013
Report: Luke Webber

British Cycling Performance Programme athletes Beth Crumpton, Grant Ferguson and Kenta Gallagher continued their campaign in the under-23 competition at round two of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup cross country in Nove Mesto.

Crumpton, in her first year of four showed continued promise, finishing eighth - her first top ten of the season - and a result which came after completing the start loop in 40th. Quickly the Olympic Academy athlete made her way through the field and posted consistent lap times.

In the under-23 men's competition, Ferguson started the race in a similar manner to round one, quickly establishing himself in the top ten positions. As the race developed the second year rider found the pace too much, dropping back to finish 16th.

After his first world cup win the night previous, Gallagher was obviously impacted by the five rounds of competition he had to endure. In context the 29th place was a triumph, with less than 24 hours to recover.

In the senior women's race Podium Programme athlete Annie Last finished 12th with consistent lap times, moving up from 22nd on the start loop and now ranked 16th overall in the world cup.
