No Dalby World Cup in 2012

With the release of the 2012 Mountain Bike World Cup calendar by the UCI today, the news is now in the public domain that Dalby Forest, Yorkshire will not be part of next year's UCI Mountain Bike World Cup circuit. The event had originally been backed by a three year deal that brought together backing from UK Sport, regional development agency Yorkshire Forward, the Forestry Commission of England and British Cycling. The deal not only brought the World Cup to the region but also saw a number of practical initiatives that brought grass roots coaching and new mountain bike facilities to the region. In 2010 with the abolition of Regional Development Agencies known, the responsibilities of Yorkshire Forward passed over to Welcome to Yorkshire to fulfil the commitment to major events in the Region.
Commenting on the loss of the event, British Cycling's Jonny Clay commented:
"We're obviously disappointed at the loss of Dalby; we worked hard to put together the original deal with the region, supported by UK Sport and the Forestry Commission for England and we've seen a host of benefits for the sport, many of which will continue despite the withdrawal of Welcome to Yorkshire's backing. Our ambition for the sport of Mountain Biking remains undiminished though, we'll take stock of what's happened and look at how we retain the momentum that the event in Dalby has given us in the future"
