Great Britain Cycling Team are back in action this weekend as the 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup continues in Germany.
Fresh from competing in the opening cross-country world cup round of the season in Nove Mesto na Morave, the British trio of Evie Richards, Ella Conolly and Frazer Clacherty head to Albstadt for competition on Saturday and Sunday.
National champions Grant Ferguson and Annie Last will also take part in the elite races representing their trade teams.
Under-23 cross-country
With second place in the world cup season opener in Czech Republic, Great Britain Cycling Team Senior Academy rider Evie Richards will look to go one better in Germany.
The Malvern rider recovered from a first lap crash to finish second in the women’s under-23 race in Nove Mesto behind American Kate Courtney.
The tough Albstadt climbs will pose a different challenge for Richards and her teammate Ella Connolly, who will be hoping for better fortune this weekend.
The Senior Academy rider was forced to retire in the Czech Republic, having suffered from illness during the race and is hopeful she will have made a full recovery in order to compete on Saturday.
The Great Britain Cycling Team duo will also be joined by British rider Isla Short in the under-23 race - with Short representing OMX Pro Team.
In the men’s under-23 race, Frazer Clacherty is Great Britain Cycling Team’s sole representative, buoyed by a strong performance in the opening world cup round.
Clacherty finished 40th in Nove Mesto, a career-best at under-23 level, and will be seeking further improvement over the hills of Albstadt where he finished 98th last year.
Elite races
National champion Grant Ferguson is set for the start line in Germany, looking to climb the standings after his first round result.
The CST Sandd American Eagle MTB Racing Team rider took 75th place in the Czech Republic and the 2016 Olympian will be looking forward to his return to Albstadt - having finished 15th in South Germany last year.
In the women’s race, fellow British champion Annie Last began her world cup campaign in fine form.
Representing OMX Pro Team, Last finished tenth in Nove Mesto - her best performance on the world cup circuit since 2015.
