Manon Carpenter and Marc Beaumont topped the podium in round five of the British Cycling MTB Downhill Series at Revolution Bike Park in Rhyd-Y-Felin, Wales.

Conditions were damp on the course following overnight rainfall and a sudden downpour before competition began and it made for an exciting day of racing.

The 1.6km track at Revolution Bike Park is fast and has a number of technical descents, drops and jumps and riders needed to be at their best, especially with the added challenge of a wet and muddy course.

Manon Carpenter was victorious last time out in Moelfre and made it two series wins in a row in Rhyd-Y-Felin with a dominant performance.

The Madison Saracen Factory Team rider showed her class to post a time of 3:25.325 – more than 22 seconds faster than her nearest rival.

Grips Bikes’ Lucy Drees was second, with Becci Skelton of Uberbike SPS Global Racing in third, almost 25 seconds further back.

Marc Beaumont wins round five of the British Cycling MTB Downhill Series

In the men’s competition, Marc Beaumont was awarded a re-run after getting caught in the course tape on his initial effort.

That left the Madison Saracen Factory Team rider knowing what he needed to do to take a potential first series win away from Propain/Dirt/Zelvy/Bliss/X-Fusion/Funn’s Philip Atwill, who had set the time to beat with 2:45.520.

Beaumont crossed the line in 2:43.857 to give him his first series win of the season by just 1.66 seconds.

Hope Factory Racing’s Adam Brayton came third, just over three and a half seconds behind Beaumont.

Wales will also host round six of the series next month, with racing in Llangollen on 17 and 18 September.
