Rachel Atherton wins third successive British Cycling National Mountain Bike Downhill Championship

World champion Rachel Atherton won a third successive elite women’s title at the British Cycling National Mountain Bike Downhill Championships in Innerleithen.

The 26-year-old GT Factory Racing star completed the course in 3:20.013, four seconds faster than Manon Carpenter in second with Katy Curd third.

Gee Atherton was denied the same achievement in the men’s race as Santa Cruz Syndicate rider Josh Bryceland was crowned champion in 2:53.243.

Atherton was three and a half seconds slower with Joseph Smith third in Peeblesshire.

Laurie Greenland took the junior men’s title, negotiating the course in 3:06.643 beating GT Factory’s Taylor Vernon by over a second.

In the junior women’s event, Charlotte Martin won in 5:16.184.
