Andrew from Richmond is relatively new to cycling, but has been truly bitten by the bug! Here's his profile.
Name:
Andrew Maryniak
Age:
50
From:
Richmond, Surrey
Club:
I don’t belong to a club yet, although I do have aspirations to join Twickenham Cycle Club (if they’ll have me).
What kind of riding do you do?
I have a hybrid bike, which I often use when cycling in London. I also use a Brompton bike for commuting to work. Additionally, I started road cycling last year. Road cycling has become a passion!
What do you enjoy most about cycling?
I think that cycling - especially road cycling - is a great way to stay active and healthy as you get older. I also love the fact that, as a beginner, there is always something new to read and learn about.
What’s your favourite ride?
May I pick two? Firstly, Richmond Park. Although one circuit is only about 7 miles, the park provides some stunning views and interesting hills (at least, for a beginner like me). My other favourite ride is along the Teign Valley in Devon. The route I take is presents some challenging hills, long level sections and easy access to some lovely pubs.
What’s your top cycling tip to share?
Have a proper bike fitting. After about a year of road cycling, I started to develop some soreness in my knees. Judging from what I read and heard from friends and colleagues who cycle, aches and pains are not an uncommon side-effect of being on a bike for long periods. Having a proper bike fit at my local shop not only helped me understand the cause of my problems, but also greatly reduced my discomfort.
If you had a tandem, who would you like to ride it with
Matt Stephens. I love his presentations on Global Cycle Network – his good-natured and informative style makes me think that perhaps I can do it after all!?
