Name: Alex Dowsett

26

What kind of riding do you do?
Road, time-trial, track.

What’s your favourite ride?
Riding a go-kart around a circuit somewhere! I guess not a lot of my riding is for pleasure. Most of it is specific training that serves a purpose.

A recovery ride with a couple of mates to the Blue Egg and back with a nice cafe stop in the middle would be as close as it gets. But the bike is seen as my office a lot of the time.

My girlfriend wants to go on bike rides. She's not really done it before and her idea is going on rides with me. I refused - so I've bought a tandem so at least I can dictate the pace.

What do you enjoy most about cycling?
I enjoy the technical aspect of everything. I love time-trial bikes - the innovation with that. The whole process with the hour record. Not necessarily from a training point of view but little bits to make myself and the bike faster.

What’s your top cycling tip to share?
Have something to work towards. Have a target in mind like a time trial time or a sportive or doing your first road race. Just have something to aim for. A lot of people make New Year's resolutions to 'get fit' and that's an open-ended ambition. You're better off saying you want to complete the London Marathon and the fitness will come with that. You've got a quantifiable target to aim for.

If you had a tandem, who would you like to ride it with?
Me and my mate Russell Hampton have toyed with the idea of going for the tandem 10 record or the tandem 25 record. We're both pretty strong riders - put us together on a flat course and I think we could be quite something.

I think it would be quite cool to go and do that.

Or another strong time-trialist - give me Tony Martin - I'll be happy - I won't have to do a lot.
