After winning our competition exclusively for British Cycling members, Paul Davies had a unique bike-fit experience this week when he got the chance to meet Retül’s lead instructor and fitter, John Dennis, and the Great Britain Cycling Team lead physiotherapist, Phil Burt.
Paul joined the experts at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester, where they used the latest technology to ensure he adopts the most effective riding position on his bike.
Retül has had a relationship with British Cycling since July 2013. The professional bike-fit company works in conjunction with the Great Britain Cycling Team’s medical staff to ensure that the elite riders’ bikes are set up for maximum performance while also minimising the risk of injury.
How was the experience? Paul shared his thoughts…
Were you excited to win the competition bike fit with Retül?
Yes definitely, I received an email telling me I had won a competition and I was over the moon - it doesn’t happen very often!
What was it like to meet the experts?
You hear about lots of people getting fitted to their bikes, but to actually get a professional bike fit from experts who work with elite and Olympic athletes, you can’t get much better than that.
What have you taken away from the experience?
The position has completely changed. I thought I might be riding in a bad position, but the bike fit with Retül just confirmed it and I can already feel the improvement. It’s much better, I’m exerting much more power through the pedals and most importantly I’m much more comfortable on the bike as well.
Finally, what’s next for you as a rider?
I’m a veteran now, so I look forward to trying to break some of my personal records and the records at my club’s veteran championship later in the year. With my new position on the bike and advice from the experts, I’ll be closer than ever.
