SF Racing’s Cameron Orr took his first win of the British Cycling | Junior Road Series on the legendary Olivers Mount motorbike circuit overlooking Scarborough.

It was Orr and Harry Hardcastle (Wheelbase Cabtech) who made their move as the race approached the hour, the pair jumping away from a select group to lead the race home.

A valiant effort from Josh Sandman saw him take third, coming agonisingly close to restoring the gap towards the lead racers.

The opening five laps on the top circuit saw a few small groups try to break the hold of the 100+ rider field, with having to resort to cyclo-cross moves on the grass but any move so early in the race was never going to trouble the field and the race hit the big circuit as one.

The steep climb up Quarry Hill always breaks the race apart and it is where any attacks will come from.

It was Louie Priddle (Mid Devon CC) and Brad Dransfield (Bike Box Alan) who made the first move on the hill, the pair able to get away for a couple of laps but the climb would prove too much as they were swallowed up by the bunch.

A move by the Bike Box Alan pair of Mason Hollyman and Jordan Reed ignited the race, looking fresh on the front of the field in the Scarborough Cycling Festival.

And with Orr, Hardcastle, Sandman (Team Backstedt/HotChillie) the Swinnerton Pair of Jake Stewart and Joe Swinnerton working to hook up with the leaders, the race win looked as though it was come from anyone of the lead bunch.

The field was now split across the 4.2 mile circuit as the laps clocked down, and it was a bold move by Orr and Hardcastle to try and escape the strong bunch.

But with the duo increasing their lead and the rest of the group not looking to respond, they capitalised on the slow response to create a gap that wouldn’t be bridged.

With two laps remaining Sandman put in an effort to try and catch the leaders, with the Backstedt rider just falling short by five seconds at the finish but taking a well-deserved third place.

The two leaders came into sight for the final time up the long finish straight but it was Orr who had the legs to take the win on the line from Hardcastle.
