Ethan Vernon (Team Corley Cycles) won the prologue time-trial in the British Cycling Junior Road Series at a new look Sleepwell Hotels Isle of Man Junior Tour.

The opening stage was the event’s traditional 1.29km test along Douglas Promenade - but Saturday’s and Sunday’s youth and junior races feature brand new courses.

Jurby in the north of the Island is the location for day two, and Sunday’s dramatic coastal course which overlooks Douglas Bay promises to provide a fitting finale.

Vernon clocked one minute and 41 seconds with Charley Calvert (Team Backstedt/Hotchillee) and Jim Brown (PH-MAS/Paul Milnes/Oldfield ERT) second and third respectively, and both just one second behind.

Junior Paris-Roubaix winner Tom Pidcock (PH-MAS/Paul Milnes/Oldfield ERT) was ninth at four seconds behind, and British junior road race champion Jacob Vaughan (VC Londres) 12th at five seconds back.
