The Beginner Training Plans are an ideal introduction to structured training and are based on the same principles and expertise that has propelled Britain to the top of World cycling. Using heart rate and cadence to monitor training intensity and performance, in 25 weeks, you'll be confident of tackling a 60-mile (100 km) sportive.

Intro to the plan

Weeks 1-4

Weeks 5-8

Weeks 9-12

Weeks 13-16

Weeks 17-20

Weeks 21-25

Once you reach the end of the 25 weeks, find out how you can carry on developing your riding here.

What to do next

It is recommended that riders who are injured, new to exercise or have health concerns do not take part in cycling training plans or fitness tests. The plans and tests assume a level of existing fitness and if you are in any doubt as to their suitability then you should consult your Doctor before undertaking any physical activity or testing. These plans are also unsuitable for children or young adults under the age of 18, unless under the direct supervision of a Level 3 Qualified British Cycling Coach. We would direct those who are 16 and under to British Cycling’s Go-Ride programme, details for which can be found here.
