Saturday 7th May saw Round 3 of the Manchester Go-Ride Racing League at Boggart Hole Clough, with hosted racing inspired by Britain's forthcoming UCI Mountain Bike World Cup. Promoted in association with Manchester Cycle Sport, Manchester's newest Go-Ride Club organised their first round of the league.

The Under 8s racing got the event under way at a flying pace - quite literally - with Kyle Braun (Dowson/Mossley CRT) flying across the grass in a stunning superman position. Back on his bike for the next race of the event, Kyle pushed William Martindale all the way for a very close second place, closely followed by amazing rides of Madeline Foex, Nancy Berry, and Joshua Jefferies.

In the Under-10 race, it was great to see the blend of colours taking the front of the race, with all clubs present. Sebastian Foex took the lead for Manchester Cycle Sport on home turf, providing him with the chance to show off the club's new jersey.

The Under 12 race saw the biggest field of the day, with riders coming from last year's event to this year. Eastlands Velo had a one-two finish in the qualifiers with Carys Harland and Ben Broomfield. With a full field in the main race, all riders were going full steam ahead from the start, with Patrick Lucas coming away with the victory, keeping his winning streak up throughout his qualifier and two mass start races.

Under 14 and Under 16 categories were filled with some aggressive riders, most of the front group taking the marking sticks with them at any possible point. Steven Shields was way ahead of the pack coming into the final lap, losing his back wheel in the hairpin and letting Daryl through for the win in the Under 16s.

With the racing complete, two teams from Manchester were picked to travel to the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup to take part in a Under 14 demonstration race on the same day as the men's and women's elite races. The two teams going to Dalby and the events being put on by the league however, could not have happened without the coming together of the clubs to support young bike riders in Manchester.

Tom Hodgkinson, British Cycling's Manchester Go-Ride Coach, was full of praise for the day's events, saying: "In the winter of last year, the clubs came together and talked about what we could get from this event; club riders understanding mountain bike racing, riders from the schools work coming to the event supported by the local club, and a team being selected to represent Manchester at the World Cup Demonstration Race.

"Today we got even more, with Young Volunteers taking down all the results, three riders from the schools programme racing in their local club jersey (Louis, Oscar, Damon for Manchester Cycle Sport), and two teams being supported to the UCI MTB XC World Cup Demonstration race, what an impact!!!".

Reports from Round 1 and Round 2 can be found by following the links. Round 4 is Road Race: Sprints at Tameside Cycling Circuit.
