As part of the London Olympic Legacy, Dowson Primary School and Mossley Cycle Racing Team have linked with ‘Join In' to organise a British Cycling Go-Ride Racing event in August. The aim of the ‘Join In’ Trust is to encourage people to try a new sport or help out at sports clubs and community groups around the UK.
‘Join In’ has chosen the Go-Ride Racing event to showcase the dedication and commitment of sports clubs and volunteers. Janis Hett, organiser of the event from Mossley CRT, said: “We are delighted to join in with promoting cycling and showing how clubs, volunteers and young people are the backbone of British sports.
“We’re inviting everyone to come along to the Go-Ride Racing event in August and look forward to meeting lots of new riders.”
Mossley CRT is part of British Cycling’s Go-Ride programme, which provides opportunities for young people to get involved in cycling as a sport. Dowson Primary School first linked with Mossley CRT in 2006 and has hosted many joint coaching and racing events, and family rides. Collectively, this has introduced hundreds of young people to cycling.
The Go-Ride Racing event in August is is a fantastic opportunity for young people to gain confidence and try out racing in their local community. On the day, there will be a coaching taster session, which will be followed by three races per age category and ability up to age 16.
This takes place on Monday 12 August 2013 at Tameside Cycling Circuit, Richmond Street, Ashton under Lyne, Greater Manchester, from 10.00am to 12.30pm and the entry fee is £2.00. A limited number of bikes and helmets will be available to borrow free of charge on the day.
If you’ve been inspired by Laura Trott or Bradley Wiggins, then this is a great event to find out how they started! Please come along, enjoy the day and have some fun.
