Despite the extremely wet weather there was a good turn out from the clubs youth riders at second round of the Newcastle Phoenix’s Get Down and Dirty Go-Ride Races Series, a Dirt Crit.  For many of the young riders this was only their third racing event.

The conditions on the day were reasonably warm but the going was extremely tough with the ground cutting up and becoming heavy as soon as the racing started. After a tough day of racing smiles were in abundance - riders had all had a great time.

The remarks from one of the clubs parents, Ruth Castle, summed up perfectly the atmosphere on the day and everything the Phoenix is about.

Ruth Castle ‘For me, this embodies everything that Phoenix is about. It was heart warming to see the kids cheering for their friends and helping and encouraging their fellow competitors, especially those who had fallen behind. Phoenix should be proud that they have engendered an atmosphere of competition at the club, alongside a genuine respect for fellow competitors. It also shows how important sport is for kids - it teaches them invaluable lessons in life and on the evidence of what I saw yesterday, helps them grow into decent, fine young people'.

Round Three of the series, a Power Climb Time Trial, takes place on 26th January.
