Cycle Sport Pendle Celebrate One Year Anniversary

Barnoldstock in Lancashire is famous for Rolls Royce and jet engines, producing some of the worlds most advanced technology. The town is also the place that 2 aerospace engineers decided to establish their company, HOPE, creating Mountain Bike racing equipment. The founders Ian Weatheral and Simon Sharp kindly decided to host Go-Ride club Cycle Sport Pendle.

On the 1 year anniversary of Cycle Sport Pendle's formation, the volunteers and young riders were treated to a tour of the factory, coaching activities from the British Cycling Go-Ride Coach Simon Wilson and expert advice from a guest international riders, Paul Oldham and Ian Wilkinson, the club's Coaches Sue Gornall and Commonwealth Gold Medal Winner Alan Gornall. The high profile guest were also there to make a donation to the club on behalf of HOPE. Cycle Sport Pendle were delighted to receive 4 ISLA bikes for young people that will make a big difference to the excellent coaching and racing opportunities they provide for the local community at Pendle Vale College, Nelson, Lancashire. Everyone at the club is extremely grateful and the Club Captain, Olympic Bronze Medallist Steven Burke, passed on his thanks to HOPE all the way from Melbourne.

The Pendle area is a hotbed of elite cycle racers with many Cyclo-Cross, Road and Track stars living in the area. The area also hosts passionate volunteers who decided to set up Cycle-Sport Pendle so that young people in the area could try and emulate the many role models living in the community. One year on CSO was able to celebrate the club's anniversary in style. However, the club has placed development and progression among its core values and never spends too long looking back. After the days excellent activities they announced that they had received Bikeabilityn funding to deliver cycle training for young people in scholols helping them ride safely on the roads which will enable them to ride their bikes more often. They also announced that in 2010 they will be provided more Go-Ride coaching, Go-Ride Racing and regional racing opportunities for existing and prospective members. Once all the announcements were made the day finished with some roller racing with highlights including a dead heat between Alan Gornall and current professional road rider Ian Wilkinson.

The day was a huge success and a treat for the young members of Cycle Sport Pendle. The Go-Ride team looks forward to hearing more from this fledgling club as they continue to their excellent Go-Ride coaching activities and race in local and regional events.
