In celebration of the Tour de France visiting our shores, British Cycling’s youth development programme, Go-Ride, is hosting a series of racing events, to ensure a lasting legacy from the Grand Depart. The racing events will form the Go-Ride Tour, which is taking place throughout the month of July.

As one of the world’s greatest cycle races, the Tour de France will undoubtedly inspire many young people to get on their bikes and get involved with their local cycling club.

British Cycling offers free membership to all new members of Go-Ride clubs, so young people can join the British Cycling family and be part of the team transforming cycling in the UK.

Clubs participating in the Go-Ride Tour are invited to encourage new club members to sign up for British Cycling membership.

The Go-Ride Club in each British Cycling region that signs up the most new British Cycling members from 1 July to 31 August 2014 will win a jersey signed by riders from the Great Britain Cycling Team.

Sir Chris Hoy, multiple world and Olympic champion, said: “With your help, British Cycling is providing support to all cyclists, however they ride.

"That could mean building new cycling facilities, putting on more cycling events or looking after the day to day needs of members who ride to work, ride to race, or just ride for the fun of it. Being a member of British Cycling makes you one of the team!”

Club members joining British Cycling for the first time can access a free silver membership (youth ages and under) or a free bronze membership (junior ages and above) for their first year.

Some of the benefits of British Cycling membership include discounts at retailers such as Halfords, bike insurance, a race licence and pre-sale and discounted tickets to major UK cycle events.

To get involved, clubs should promote British Cycling membership to existing and new club members and make sure they write the club’s name on their application. To sign up for membership, visit the British Cycling membership page and use the promotional code ‘NEWCMRA’ on the payment page.
