The Go-Ride Racing winter offer is supporting clubs up and down the country, helping riders enjoy riding and racing with their friends throughout the winter months. Clubs delivering two Go-Ride Racing activities between October 2013 and March 2014 are rewarded with Go-Ride bibs and the opportunity to send their riders to events hosted by the Go-Ride team.
On Saturday, riders from Go-Ride Racing clubs had the chance to enjoy some indoor cycling at Sheffield’s English Institute of Sport.
The world class facilities, also home to the Olympic champion Jess Ennis and the Great Britain Olympic Boxing team, provide a warm, dry and safe place to race. The banked running track is perfect for some track-style racing and the flat areas are just right for some indoor cycle speedway.
The day saw a series of scratch races, elimination races and Australian pursuits hotly contested on the banked running track. Meanwhile, thanks to bikes kindly donated by Sheffield Stars Cycle Speedway club, riders were also able to race indoor cycle speedway. Riders from the North West and East Midlands joined the riders from South Yorkshire and crammed as much racing as possible into the three hours.
Club members have also had the opportunity to enjoy track cycling opportunities at Manchester and Newport velodromes. More events are still to come, with entries open for cyclists:
- 21 December 2013: Indoor cycling at Sheffield EIS
- 25 January 2013: Indoor cycling at Manchester EIS
- 23 February and 9 March 2014: Indoor BMX at National Cycling Centre
- 16 February and 2 March 2014: BMX at Kent Cyclopark
- (Date TBC): Track at the London Olympic Velodrome
