Does your club need more volunteers? Do you want to encourage the volunteers that you have? Then the free Volunteer Coordinator workshop is for you.

Places on this workshop are FREE and each delegate will receive a Go-Ride Club Volunteer Polo Shirt, whilst each club represented will also be entered into a draw to win a coaching bursary for their volunteer of choice.

Volunteers are one of the most valuable assets that clubs boast and it is the hard work of all volunteers that allows young people in Go-Ride clubs to enjoy their cycling.

With the majority of clubs experiencing an increase in the number of attendees at their Go-Ride sessions, even more importance is now placed on the role of volunteers to accommodate this surge in participation. The Volunteer Coordinator workshop will provide advice on how to recruit more volunteers; from deciding the roles you require, to promoting the opportunity within your local community and highlighting useful sources of volunteers.

There is a real importance placed on the recruitment, training and implementation of a support plan to ensure that volunteers feel rewarded and integrated within their clubs. This helps to ensure volunteers have continued enthusiasm and dedication, and are committed for the long term - contributing to the sustainability of the club. A club will benefit greatly from having a single contact who supervises their volunteers, knows them all by name and is aware of what each of them does.

Our Volunteer Coordinator workshop is a practical three hour cycling-specific workshop, which provides volunteers with useful techniques and practical support. It helps volunteers to ensure their time is used as effectively and efficiently as possible, ensuring they feel supported in their roles.

The workshop will cover:

- The role of the Volunteer Coordinator

- The financial value of volunteers

- Methods for recruiting volunteers

- How to manage, motivate and develop your volunteers

- Establishing a volunteer action plan

The workshop is a fantastic opportunity for both young and adult volunteers to pick up top tips on the Volunteer Coordinator role and learn from volunteers in other clubs, so that best practice can be implemented across our network of Go-Ride clubs.

If you are interested in attending one of these workshops, please complete the registration form and return to the Go-Ride team (go-ride@britishcycling.org.uk).

Case Study: Helen Ballam

“I really enjoyed the Volunteer Coordinator workshop. I was amazed at the information and support available to us in carrying out the role.

The volunteer role descriptions are really useful, as they give guidance on the specific aspects of the role and something to work towards.

Having one contact in the club who keeps track of volunteers and what they are doing has also been really useful. As well as making the club very organised, it also gives club members a central point of contact to approach about the work of the volunteers across the club.”
