With good weather the Sunday morning event run by Scarborough based Richardsons Cycle Club attracted 33 riders from as far afield as Hull, Guisborough York and Guiseley, plus a strong contingent from Filey.

Using the McCain Sports Ground with freshly mown track and sections of banking the riders had two challenging routes with the under 8s doing a smaller circuit to start with. Once riders had signed on and bike/ helmet checks were done the parents sat in the sunshine as practice began and then the riders lined up for a quick briefing.

Under 6s
We had five riders under six so enough for a race! The first two races were wins for Filey rider Thomas Eblet, with Joseph Dingwall, RCC rider Olivia Hall and Abigail Clark chasing hard for the places. The ever smiling Olivia took the win on Race 3 to get a Go-Ride gold medal! Superb!

Under 8s
William Butterworth was on fine form for wins on the first two races with Malton rider John Felgate taking a second place. Hunmanby’s Ozzy Stringer improved from 3rd to 2nd to take victory in race 3.

Under 10s
We had some very exciting races in the under 10s. In the first race York rider Joseph Prole was just pipped at the line by Harry Butterworth with Guisborough rider Joe Brown taking third. However Prole fought back to take the next two races with Butterworth and York’s Francis Hirzel fighting for the places.

Under 12s
With RCC Rider Megan Simpson on the sidelines and helping to lay out the track it was a boys only race. There were two wins for Matthew Dingwall, Matthew Hutchinson got a second place, and then Guy Drabble from Malton took the victory in race three to get the British Cycling gold medal.

Under 14s/ Under 16s
Richardsons CC Rider Caven Walker battled it out with Bailey Thornton and York’s Jasper Wood. Alex Drabble took a third in the first race but Caven was on form to win all three races, and Jasper Wood was keen to demonstrate some fine wheelie across the line techniques. With only one U16 rider, Marcus Archer set off behind the under 14s and mixed it with them, generously donating his McDonalds prize to the under 6s.

Once again thanks to my Go-Ride team of helpers, the local McDonalds for prize vouchers and McCains for use of the sports ground.

Our next event is 22nd September at Dalby Forest. For more details, contact the organiser Bryden Simpson info@bshygiene.co.uk or call 01723 513773 or visit the club website.
