Youngsters inspired by the success of Team GB at London 2012 gathered at Tameside Circuit for Mossley CRT’s Go-Ride Games event.

Wannabe Wiggo’s from U6 – U16 categories took part in a range of events on the 1km road circuit including an individual time trial, scratch, handicap and elimination race.

Caitlin Braun and Karina Henshaw were fastest through the one lap time trial in the U6 and U8 categories with Mossley regular Cameron Bates and Luke Norcross taking the honours in the older categories.

Riders in the U6 and U8 categories also took part in a scratch and handicap race with all races counting towards the overall medals and host of Go-Ride Games goodies including T-Shirts, wristbands and waterbottles.

Caitlin Braun took honours in the U6 category from Michael Postlethwaite and Martha Munro. With special mention going to Adam Welsh who was without doubt the most popular rider of the day, always giving 100% and smiling even throughout the mid-morning downpour.

The girls ruled the roost in the U8 category with Karina Henshaw taking gold from first time racer Anya Munro. Sam Pottage was first male rider with Oliver Copson and Kien Welsh closely battling for the remaining medals.

Older riders also took part in an elimination race having been impressed by the success of Laura Trott in the Event at London 2012.

Cameron Bates continued his successful run by clinching top spot in the U10 competition with Kyle Braun and Nikash Henshaw taking 2nd and 3rd with Lizzie Pottage taking the honours for the first female rider.

Luke Norcross fought off Ellis Anderson and young local rider Karl Richter take gold in the combined U14/U16 competition.

With many riders taking part in their first race, there was a friendly family atmosphere with more experienced riders lending their support to novice racers, this was particularly apparent in the Team relay event.

Special thanks goes to Janis Hett and Fred Hewitt along with Mossley CRT for organising a fantastic event.
