The sixth and final day of racing at the the U23/Junior European Track Championships saw another strong display from Great Britain's Academy and Olympic Development Programme riders. At the conclusion of the six day event in Adania, Portugal they finished a highly respectable third place in the medal table, one medal behind Germany.

After her silver medal in the Team Sprint, Development rider, Danielle Khan crashed out in the semi finals of the Women's Junior Keirin. She made a gallant come back however, winning the ride off for the minor positions.

Callum Skinner, placed 3rd in the first round of the U23 Men's Keirin, meaning he found himself heading into the repecharge. Full credit to the Academy rider though for fighting his way back through the rounds to make the final in the Keirin in which he finally placed 4th.

After winning her first heat in the Women's U23 Keirin ahead of Olivia Montauban of France, Becky James, who had been suffering with knee problems during the competition, took the bronze medal in the final. She was just beaten to the line by the two Russian athletes, with Viktoria Baranova who took gold and Elena Brezhniva taking the silver.

The end of competition saw a breathtaking ride by Development rider and newly crowned Junior European Kilo Champion, Matt Rotherham. After a great day of racing for him in the Junior Men's Keirin, he found himself riding in the major final. After an impressive ride from Rotheram, he narrowly missed out on the gold to Polish rider Mateusz Lipa by just a few inches, settling for silver at the end of eight laps.

Day six concludes racing from the U23/Junior European Track Championships for 2012. We will be bringing you the reactions from the Academy and Development coaches as soon as we have them.
