Great Britain has endured an indifferent two sessions as they began their Track World Cup campaign on day two in Astana, Kazakhstan, narrowly missing out on a medal in the women's team sprint and 500m TT and a seventh place in the men's team sprint.

Jess Varnish and Becky James qualified third in the women's team sprint and confidently backed up their time in the final with a 33.588, but Germany took nearly three-tenths of a second off their qualifying time to take the medal with a 33.338.

Varnish again missed out on a podium placing in the 500m TT - recording a personal best of 34.293 - which was only good enough for fourth.

Meanwhile the men's sprint team of Ross Edgar, Jason Kenny and Jason Queally clocked 44.326, only enough for seventh place.

Day two at the opening Track World Cup also saw Ed Clancy begin the omnium. The new European Champion completed the day with 11th in the elimination, having won the flying lap and scored 15th in the points race. Overnight, Clancy stands seventh, 13 points off of a medal.
