Great Britain’s David Stone took silver in the first day of competition at the 2013 UCI Para cycling World Championships in Baie Comeau, Canada.

Thursday was individual time trial day for the hand cycle and trike classes and Stone, fresh from a win in last week’s final world cup time trial was last but one to depart, followed by 2011 world champion, Hans Peter Durst from Germany.

Stone rode an excellent race tackling the technical sections of the course in an expert fashion. He passed the Italian rider Giogio Farroni in the final corner of the 8.6km loop crossing the line in a time of 15:04.23 putting him at the top of the leader board with only Durst left to clock a time.

It was however not to be Stone’s day as Durst, fully recovered following a bout of illness that denied him from racing last week in Matane, crossed the line 10.65s quicker with a time of 14:53.58.

The action continues today with Darren Kenny competing in the C3 men’s individual time trial over 17.3 Km and the world cup leading duo of Lora Turnham and Corrine Hall competing in the women’s tandem time trial over 25.9 Km. The trikes will be battling it out once more on Saturday in the world championship road race.
