Paralympic silver medallist Karen Darke has been involved in a collision with a car in Cumbria.

The hand-cyclist was out on a training ride on the evening of Tuesday 4 June when she was hit from behind by a motorist near Clifton Dykes in Penrith.

The incident has left Karen in hospital with injuries to her neck, arm and shoulder. She is expected to make a full recovery.

Commenting on the incident, Karen said:

“This should serve as a reminder to both drivers and cyclists to be extra careful while out on the roads during sunrise and sunset hours. Thankfully my long term prognosis is as good as it could have been and I’m now focusing on my recovery.”

Cumbria Police is continuing to look into the circumstances of the incident.
