Neil Fachie has been named the Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Sports Person of the Year. A title also won by Sir Chris Hoy, Sir Alex Ferguson and Andy Murray, the Great Britain Para-cycling Team rider, who recorded four gold medals at two World Championships, also broke his own world record at the 2011 edition in Italy.

Run in conjunction with The Scotsman newspaper, it looks at people that have made a major difference in the categories of culture, science and sport. With the nominees chosen by a judging panel, the public then votes for the winners.

After receiving the award, Fachie commented:

"It’s great to be recognised that para sports is shown alongside able-bodied sports, and I hope that folk realise that the Paralympics will be a show as good as, if not better than, the Olympics.”
