BMX World Champion and Great Britain Cycling Team Talent Team rider Quillan Isidore is one of ten contenders shortlisted for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2012 award.
Isidore became BMX world champion in his age category (Boys 16) after an impressive display at the UCI BMX World Championships in Birmingham in May and joins up and coming stars from across sport, all vying for the coveted prize previously won by stars such as Wayne Rooney and Tom Daley.
Isidore showed outstanding skill and composure beyond his years on his way to becoming the world’s best in the Boys 16 category at the National Indoor Arena, commanding many of the races on route to the title against a tough field in Birmingham.
The Young Sports Personality of the Year award is open to sportsmen and sportswomen aged 16 or under on 1 January 2012 and the shortlist comprises: Jessica Applegate (swimming), Olivia Breen (Paralympic 4x100m relay), Josef Craig (Paralympic swimming), Kyle Edmund (tennis), Georgia Hall (golf), Quillan Isidore (BMX), Siobhan-Marie O’Connor (swimming), Saskia Sills (windsurfing), Rebecca Tunney (gymnastics), Kimberley Woods (canoeing).
The top three will be selected from the shortlist soon and the winner will be revealed on the Sports Personality of the Year award show on 16 December.
