Evie Richards produced a superb performance at the Mountain Bike World Cup with a second-place finish in the under-23 Cross-Country at La Bresse.

The 21-year-old rider crossed the line 33 seconds behind stage winner Sina Frei of Switzerland, completing the race in 1h22m34s.

Germany’s Ronja Eibl completed the podium but finished more than a minute behind Richards, while Italy’s Marika Tova and USA’s Haley Batten rounded out the top five.

Richards’ Great Britain teammate Isla Short finished 26th in 1h33m47s.

Elsewhere, in the women’s elite Olympic Cross-Country Annie Last was the top finishing British rider in 35th.

The 28-year-old finished 15th overall for the season with 1034 points, with Short the next highest in 47th and Richards in 49th.

Switzerland’s Jolanda Neff won the final race of the season in La Bresse to claim the overall title from Poland’s Maja Wloszczowska and Denmark’s Annika Langvad.

Grant Ferguson was the highest finishing British rider in the men’s race, in 61st while Philip Pearce was 83rd and Joe Griffiths 99th.

Ferguson finished the season in 52nd place with 538 points.
