Great Britain recorded their fastest women’s team pursuit time since their world record-breaking exploits in last year’s Olympic final to win gold on the last day of the TISSOT UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Manchester this afternoon.

Katie Archibald, Elinor Barker, Neah Evans and Emily Nelson beat Italy in the final to claim the Great Britain Cycling Team’s third gold medal of the weekend, posting an impressive time of 4:16:803 in the process.

Earlier, Emily Kay and Manon Lloyd had stepped in for Archibald and Barker – who combined to win the Madison last night – as Great Britain beat Belgium to book their place in the final.

Following the final, Nelson said: “We’re really happy. That’s the fastest Great Britain have gone (in women’s team pursuit) since the Olympics. The home crowd was cheering us the whole way and you could really hear them. It really, really helps - we are so happy.”

Team Breeze finished eighth after Becky Raybould, Jenny Holl and Jess Roberts – all of whom were making their world cup debuts – and Ellie Dickinson set a time of 4:31:229.

Callum Skinner, riding for 100% me, provided another moment for the home crowd to enjoy as he claimed bronze in a high-quality men’s kilo competition.

Skinner recorded the second fastest time in qualifying, beaten only by Australia’s Matthew Glaetzer, who posted the quickest ever time at sea level – 59:790.

Despite going fractionally slower in the final, Glaetzer won gold, with Skinner’s time of 1:01:161 good enough for bronze, behind Eric Engler of Track Team Brandenburg.

Team KGF’s Jonathan Wale finished seventh with a time of 1:01:818.

Men’s keirin

Joe Truman performed magnificently to reach the keirin final, winning both his first and second round races. He attacked early in the final, but his brave move didn’t pay off as Beat Cycling Club’s Matthijs Buchli won gold ahead of the Ukraine’s Andrii Vynokurov and Spain’s Juan Peralta Gascon. Truman finished in sixth.

Men’s Madison

Mark Stewart and Chris Latham combined to contest the men’s Madison for the Great Britain Cycling Team, and put themselves firmly in contention after a solid start to the 120-lap race. However, a lap gains elsewhere in the field left the British pairing unable to claw their way back into the medal reckoning. They finished sixth, with Denmark, France and Poland taking gold, silver and bronze respectively.

Women’s sprint

Katy Marchant went out of the women’s sprint at the 1/8 final stage to the seemingly unstoppable Kristina Vogel of Germany. Marchant had edged out Wales’ Rachel James in the previous round, while Vogel went on to claim gold – her third of weekend and sixth inside two world cup rounds.
