Great Britain Cycling Team’s Evie Richards finished a fine third in the under-23 women’s race at the final round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup as Isla Short took fourth.

British champion Richards, 20, continued her strong 2017 form in Val di Sole to finish behind American Kate Courtney and Swiss rider Sina Frei.

Richards has now finished in the top three in all five rounds she has raced and ends the world cup third in the overall standings.

OMX Pro Team’s Short and Richards both started superbly and did not look back over the five laps.

After lap one, Richards and Short had established themselves in third and fourth respectively and consistent lap times over the four-kilometre course saw them keep those positions.

Richards will now turn her attention to the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Cairns, Australia, from 5-10 September.

17th for Clacherty

British under-23 champion Frazer Clacherty finished 17th in the under-23 men’s race. Clacherty was three minutes and 42 seconds behind race winner Nadir Colledani after six laps.

The 20-year-old ends the season 21st overall in the world cup standings and will be in action for Great Britain at the upcoming world championships.

Elite races

OMX Pro Team’s Annie Last was 24th in the elite women’s race, in a season which has seen the 26-year-old win her first elite world cup race.

Last completed the six laps in 1:33.35 as Swiss rider Jolanda Neff took the win ahead of Yana Belomoina and Maja Wloszczowska.

Britons Vanessa Holmes and Kerry MacPhee were 65th and 66th respectively.

In the elite men’s race, Grant Ferguson was pulled out of the race due to the 80% rule on lap five, while Tom Bell was withdrawn on lap six. Nino Schurter completed a perfect season with the win.
