British Cycling has confirmed the ten riders who will represent Great Britain at the 2017 UCI 4X Mountain Bike World Championships taking place in Val di Sole, Italy, from 24-25 August.
Luke Cryer, currently ranked as the world number one in the UCI standings, has made selection for the team, as has recently crowned 2017 national champion Scott Beaumont.
The riders representing Great Britain for the women include 2017 national champion Tyde D’Souza along with Natasha Bradley who has enjoyed a strong season in the ProTour World Series, taking the victory at the Fort William round in June.
Speaking of the selected team, British Cycling’s head coach Iain Dyer commented: “I am pleased with the team we have selected for this year’s four-cross world championships, which includes a mix of experienced riders who we believe are medal competitive and development riders who will benefit from the experience.
“From the experienced riders we selected, Luke Cryer enjoyed success in both the 2015 and 2016 world championships, taking the silver and bronze medal in the respective years, so it will be great to see him competing in a Great Britain jersey again.
Scott Beaumont won his sixth consecutive national title at the end of last month – his eighth overall – and has a lot of experience on the ProTour scene whilst Natasha Bradley has enjoyed a good season of results, with top four finishes in all of the ProTour rounds this year so it will be interesting to see how they get on.
“I’m pleased we are able to give some of our younger riders the experience to race on the world stage. For example, seventeen year old Tyde D’Souza competes in the elite women’s category despite being a junior rider and delivers strong results at national level. To step up and compete against a world-class field of elite female riders will be beneficial to Tyde’s future career as a four-cross rider.”
